Devon Forward March Testimonial 2
“Writing, producing and performing a play that immerses an audience in blindness marks the beginning of my life’s work–a beginning that is not only important for me as a blind woman but also the blind community. We live in a time that is grounded deeply in the visual and as such, JAMA Ophthalmology notes that people, “would rather die than be blind.” This belief is a particularly powerful one when you are a blind person. The Forward March program offers the guidance and support that both Nate and I need in order to develop a truly immersive performance and story of blindness, one that challenges this “fear” and reveals the beauty and life in blindness. This work is not merely achieved in a day or a short “workshop” environ- ment where there are many people working on their own passions. This work, the work of blindness as a necessary and valuable expression and perception of life, requires a sustained and prolonged commitment from people, funds and time. This work is a never-ending journey, one that the TD Forward March program serves well. Indeed, I would never be able to do such work without it!”
